           Injury and Death

Garou possess remarkable resilience and recover from many injuries far more quickly than ordinary humans. Wounds that might incapacitate or even kill a mortal may heal rapidly given time. However, Garou are not invulnerable. Severe trauma, overwhelming injury, fire, and other extraordinary circumstances can still maim or kill even the mightiest of Gaia's children.

 

Silver

Silver is widely regarded as the greatest weakness of the Garou. Weapons fashioned from silver inflict agonizing wounds that are exceptionally difficult for a Garou to endure and recover from. To many Garou, silver is both feared and respected, serving as a reminder that even the children of Gaia possess vulnerabilities.

 

Fire

Though Garou are resilient, fire remains one of the most universally feared dangers. Flames can cause grievous injury, spread rapidly beyond control, and leave lasting wounds. Wildfires and deliberate acts of arson are often viewed by many Garou as particularly tragic, for fire possesses the power to destroy both life and the natural places they strive to protect.

Disease, Starvation, and Exhaustion

Garou are generally more hardy than ordinary mortals and possess impressive endurance. Nevertheless, they are living creatures and are not immune to the hardships of existence. Severe illness, prolonged deprivation, exhaustion, and extreme environmental conditions may weaken a Garou physically and mentally, particularly when endured over extended periods.

Supernatural Harm

The world contains many forces beyond ordinary understanding. Certain forms of magic, spiritual influences, and supernatural abilities may injure or otherwise affect the Garou in ways that cannot always be predicted. The exact nature of such interactions often depends upon the circumstances and may be subject to storyteller interpretation.

 

Forms of the Garou

Homid/ Human Form

In their homid form, Garou appear as ordinary people and may participate in everyday life much as any other resident of Opaline. Though their instincts and heightened senses never truly disappear, they are generally able to blend into society and interact comfortably with both mortals and super-naturals.

Lupus/ Wolf Form

In wolf form, a Garou assumes the appearance of a standard wolf. Senses become exceptionally keen, movement becomes swift and fluid, and instincts often feel more immediate and pronounced. Many Garou describe this form as peaceful and freeing, allowing them to experience the natural world in ways impossible through human perception.

 

Though less imposing than the hybrid form, the wolf form remains an important expression of Garou identity and their enduring connection to Gaia.

Crinos Form/ War form

The Crinos form represents the union of human intelligence and lupine ferocity. Standing larger and more imposing than either human or wolf, this form possesses tremendous physical power and serves as the iconic image many associate with werewolves. Most Garou reserve this form for situations requiring protection, combat, or the defense of themselves and others.

Due to its intimidating and unmistakably supernatural appearance, the Crinos form presents a significant risk to the Veil and should be exercised with discretion.

 

Transformation

The changing of forms is a natural part of Garou existence and is often described as both instinctive and deeply physical. Bones shift and reform, muscles expand or contract, senses sharpen, and the world itself seems to change in clarity and intensity. Scents become more distinct, distant sounds become easier to perceive, and emotions often feel stronger and more immediate.

 

To many Garou, shifting forms feels neither wholly human nor wholly animal. Rather, it is an expression of their true nature and their connection to Gaia. While experienced Garou often shift with confidence and familiarity, powerful emotions, stress, or extraordinary circumstances may make transformation feel more intense or difficult to control.

 

Rage

Rage is the primal fire that burns within every Garou. It is not simply anger, but a deep and instinctive force tied to passion, protection, survival, and the fierce desire to confront injustice and corruption.

 

Rage can grant determination, courage, and the will to persevere in the face of overwhelming adversity. However, if left unchecked, it may cloud judgment, intensify emotions, and lead to impulsive or destructive actions.

 

Every Garou experiences Rage differently. Some maintain remarkable discipline over their passions, while others struggle against its intensity throughout their lives. Learning to understand and manage one's Rage is considered an important part of personal growth and responsibility within the pack.

 

Rage should be viewed as an important aspect of Garou roleplay and character development rather than as a simple measure of combat ability.

 

The Moon and the Garou

The moon holds deep spiritual significance to the Garou, and many believe that its cycles subtly influence emotions, instincts, and reflection.

 

Some Garou may feel more energetic, restless, contemplative, or emotionally sensitive during certain phases of the moon. Others may experience little change at all. The influence of the moon is highly personal and should be viewed primarily as an opportunity for character development and roleplay.

 

The full moon, and other moon events, such as Harvest Moon, sometimes can have strong effects on Garou, this may result in a shorter temper, stronger protective instincts, vivid dreams, difficulty remaining calm, or, in some instances, an unintended shift of forms brought on by powerful emotions.
