Opaline Peak the Buried God.png

The Old Gods

Opaline has always been a place where the veil thins, where the land hums with something older than language, older than the mountain itself. Beneath Opaline Peak lies the Buried God, a primordial force whose dreaming shaped the valley’s storms, its strange flora, its restless wildlife, and the instincts of every supernatural lineage that calls this place home. The Moon‑Carved guard its slumber, the Blood‑Marked covet its power, and the Veil‑Touched feel its whispers in their bones.

The Deep Godhead

THE ORIGINS OF The Buried God

Long before Opaline Peak rose from the earth, before the valley had rivers or names or watchers, something ancient fell into the world. Some say it was a star that never burned. Others say it was a thought the universe tried to forget. The oldest whisper ~ the one the Moon‑Carved kept closest ~ claims it was a god that crawled out of the dark between worlds and burrowed deep into the newborn stone, choosing the mountain as its tomb, its cradle, and its throne.

This presence became known only as The Buried God.

It is not a deity in the way humans understand the word. It does not speak in language or demand worship. It is a force ~ a consciousness woven into bedrock, a pulse beneath the soil, a dream that never ends. Its slumber shaped the land around it: the strange magnetic pull of the ridge, the way storms gather unnaturally over Opaline, the way the moonlight seems brighter on the peak than anywhere else in the valley.

The Buried God is not benevolent. It is not cruel. It simply is ~  vast, ancient, and hungry in ways no mortal mind can fully grasp.

How the Buried God Shapes the Land

The mountain is its body. The valley is its breath. Everything in Opaline bends, subtly or violently, to its presence.

The Land

• Soil near the peak is unnaturally fertile, producing flora that grow faster, stronger, and stranger than they should.

• Waterfalls inside the mountain glow faintly during certain lunar phases, reacting to the god’s dreaming cycles.

• Animals avoid some areas entirely and flock to others without explanation.

• Storms gather around the ridge as if pulled by an unseen hand.

Flora & Fauna

• Plants near the mountain’s heart develop unusual properties ~ healing, hallucinogenic, or toxic depending on the god’s “mood.”

• Animals born near the peak often display heightened instincts, uncanny intelligence, or territorial aggression.

• Some creatures vanish into the woods and return changed, as if touched by something ancient.

Humans

• Sensitive individuals experience dreams, visions, or compulsions tied to the mountain.

• Some families in Opaline carry bloodlines subtly shaped by generations of proximity to the god’s influence.

• Outsiders often feel disoriented, watched, or “pulled” toward certain places without knowing why.

How the Buried God Affects the Lineages

The Moon‑Carved

They believe the Buried God is the mountain’s soul ~ the primal force that shaped their lineage. Its presence strengthens their instincts, heightens their senses, and fuels their rites. They see themselves as its guardians, not its servants. To them, the god is a sleeping storm that must never be awakened.

The Blood‑Marked

They feel the Buried God like a pressure behind the ribs ~ a source of power they cannot fully access but desperately want to. Its presence amplifies their hunger, sharpens their predatory nature, and stirs their ambition. They see the god as a wellspring of potential, a force that could elevate them if they could only harness it.

The Circle of the Crone

They hear the god in whispers, in dreams, in the rustle of leaves at midnight. Their magic bends unpredictably near the mountain, sometimes strengthened, sometimes warped. They believe the Buried God is not a single being but a convergence of forces ~ a crossroads of the old world and the unseen.

The Buried God Today ~ Opaline 2026

The mountain is stirring.

• Lunar cycles have grown erratic.

• The Caern’s resonance is strengthening.

• The Circle of the Crone report dreams of something waking beneath the stone.

• The Blood‑Marked feel a surge of ambition they can’t explain.

• The Moon‑Carved sense a shift in the mountain’s heartbeat ~ faster, louder, closer.

Whatever the Buried God is, whatever it wants, whatever it dreams ~ Opaline stands on the edge of its awakening.

And the mountain always collects what it is owed.
